What is an old utility bill?
An old utility bill is what you see and SAVE by stopping your girlfriend from tossing the whole stack of her fathers PG&E bills, dating back to the early 1980s, into the chimenea. And this is why I thought that theyd be useful. The whole time I was knocking doors for American Solar Direct, setting up consulting appointments for our in home salesmen, I had doubts that our claim of six or six and a half percent, annual PG&E rate increases were valid. No customer ever called our bluff by showing us an old PG&E bill. Our whole presentation was based on math of 6 or 6.5 percent. ie At the end of 20 years, you, based on these usage figures over the past year, will saved xx dollars, by having this solar PV system on your roof. Meanwhile, PG&E was claiming 3%. so I had my math wizard sister in law crunch the numbers. Her figure was 3.24 percent. Every presentation that I ever sat in on was based on a lie. On the other hand, I knocked 24,000 doors in 3 years and knocked the door whether the homeowner had solar installed or not. (To answer questions and ask for referrals.) I met, during that whole 3 years, exactly one homeowner who was unhappy with her solar PV system. (She probably had purchased too much solar and the promised savings didnt pencil out.) And now, PG&E will be asking the PUC for an 18% electrical rate increase. And then, the dozen customers, out of 24,000, who got rolling on solar when I knocked on their doors. will laugh all the way to the bank.
