What happens if I dont pay my utility bills and the 30-day?

I wonder how you can get utility accounts if you don't have a SSN. I guess you're probably a foreign student studying in the US, and you're leaving the country after your graduation/studies. Leaving behind the moral issue of doing a runner, you can probably get away with it if you never return and live in the US again. The utility companies would probably write off the debts because being utility bills, the amount will not be significant and it will cost them more to take legal action against you to recover the debt. So your going AWOP will not have any effect in the consideration of a tourist Visa. But them not taking any legal action against you or your not having a SSN doesn't mean the companies cannot register your debt with credit reference agencies. All credit agencies such as Transunion and Experian have a service called Missing Persons (or something similar to that effect - I can't remember the exact name) where the name, address, any ID documents used in opening the accounts, will be registered in the database as having gone AWOP. Most banks and credit-giving companies including utility companies and mobile phone suppliers will subscribe to this registry. When a flagged (missing) defaulter on the registry appears again and applies to the service of one subscriber, his latest details will be sent to the companies that he defaulted. So, should you ever apply for credit in the USA again, at which time you'll be asked for your ID and previous addresses, you might be caught as a defaulter, and your application will of course be turned down. The companies you defaulted before might also restart debt recovery action against you.
