Why do some companies report bad credit for not paying a bill, but?
The only thing that reports positive on your credit report are actual loans. Mortgages, auto loans, credit cards, personal loans etc. Utilities are not credit accounts, they also do not charge interest except for late fees. It would also be confusing for your report if you payed utilities with a credit card. If utilities reported as a credit account this would be considered a balance transfer. Another reason is because even at the bare minimum financial situation you should be able to pay your utilities. So making a utility payment isn't considered good credit behavior, it's just expected. If you can't pay your utility they will report you and let your creditors know you're struggling to survive.
