Why can't the utility companies be compensated by the 2 trillion and?
It appears as though utility companies (at least in California) have adopted a policy of not disconnecting service until further notice due to the Covid 19 crisis. Utility Consumer Protections During California COVID-19 Outbreak Its sorta like the moratorium on rental evictions. We dont necessarily need to pay nowbut we will have to pay eventually. I think you can apply for some sort of leniency if you can prove hardship. Im sure theres paperwork. My dad has solar. He gets bills with credit balances from the power company because he sells his surplus back to the grid. I paid my bills this month because I could; Im not virtuous. I remember what its like to be unable to pay for necessities. I did receive an email the other day from the gas company about the climate credit on my bill coming early this year. Hopefully this helps a little. California Climate Credit I dont believe public utilities are the ones making the money - theyre heavily regulated. Our economy is based on the idea that private industry should make lots and lots of money. Personally, I think that sucks. The government doesnt often hand out cash to make our lives easier, they hand out money to keep the system going. Usually, you need to jump through an almost impossible series of hoops to gain any real benefit from government largesse. Its really up to us to take care of ourselves and each other because the machine doesnt know or care about our problems. We should probably fix the machine. Im familiar enough with working the system to know that the people doesnt mean you and me to the government. The people is a faceless, amorphous, abstract concept.
