People are jobless, but why are the states still collecting utility?

The state doesnt collect utility bills, the utility company does. That said, utility and credit card companies (along with governments, hospitals and every other business) have salaries and other bills and expenses that have to be covered. Currently the employment rate is 14.7%. I think its higher but that still means over 80% have jobs. This isnt to make light of those who are unemployed. Its tragic. But the other 80% should still pay their bills so the economy doesnt completely lock up. Should we cut those who are unemployed some slack? Sure. And thats happening. Think about your question. If you worked for a utility, for instance, should your paycheck stop coming because of COVID? No. We need to muddle thru but not go back to the stone ages.
