On average in the US we keep a car for almost 6 years.?

While this doesnt feed anyones ego and doesnt look as stylish, that cycle is very poor financial management. Buy as inexpensive of a late-model used car as you can accept, bank the difference. Pay it off. Drive it until the repair expenses begin to approach that of a payment then get rid of it. Over time, repeating this, you will not require financing to purchase your next car. Delayed gratification is not all that appealing on the front end but its very appealing 20 years later. Have some regard for your future self, take care of that person youll become. Youll thank yourself and have a much more comfortable and worry-free life.
