Is it a surprise that the first data from an experiment in a?

Not to me. Most people who have jobs or who are retired are mature enough to use such money wisely. Its the chronically unemployed people who tend to have issues with that. According to this article, such people only represented 2% of the experiment, and there was also a very significant amount of self-reporting involved. But the issues a lot of conservatives have with a UBI go far beyond the concern over what the money will be spent on. Its such issues of how to pay for it, whether it will be a flat or regressive income, whether it essentially becomes another crutch for the welfare state, etc.
