If a college roommate goes home for the summer but continues to pay?
It depends on the agreement they had as roommates. I know for my son, he had three months left on his lease agreement. With him gone, the utilities were less and they were moving into the summer months which meant a drastic drop in utilities in our area. He was not there to make sure they didnt leave the heater running when it didnt need to be one, overwatering the lawn or leaving another appliance or lights on. He paid a lower portion of the utilities, but the last two months, the roommates all agreed, he didnt have to pay. I would say, if you agreed to pay a portion and rent, it would be the responsible thing to do to pay it. However, it would be wise to reduce that portion with them not utilizing utilities as well as the moral thing to do.
