How will people be able to recharge their electric cars when states?
Rolling blackouts are caused by high peak demand. Some electric cars coming out now (and most in the future) will be able to feed into the house - meaning that you can use the car directly as your back-up power - ICE owners have to choose between whether to put their spare gas in the generator or in the car. But before even getting to that stage, EV owners will be given the option to allow their utility to sip some energy from their EV (if plugged in at the time) for a small payment to the homeowner. That will allow the utility to use thousands of cars as their back-up energy to *prevent* rolling blackouts in the first place. So, the expectation is that more EVs will make for fewer rolling blackouts during peak hours, and will allow people to keep the lights on if there is a blackout.
