How do I start paying utilities?

Well, there are a few possibilities that come to mind. I assume you are renting a place; as a landlord, I have a policy of not handing keys to a new tenant until the tenant has placed the utility billing for all utilities into the tenant's name - and I confirm that by contacting the utility companies. So first thing to check is: Did you apply with the utility companies to have the utilities placed into your name for billing? If not, then the landlord is probably getting billed If that isn't the case, did you sign up to have the payments for the utilities automatically drafted to be deducted from your checking account? If so, and you signed up for paperless statements then you won't get a bill in the postal mail. And then there is the possibility that the utility company has a lengthy billing cycle; I own rental properties where trash and sewer bills come quarterly so a bill only comes about every three months.
