Can I just not pay and let the gas be shut off to my rental house? My tenant had the utility is his name but didn't pay so the provider simply changed it into my name and now is billing me. I'd like to just not pay and let whatever happens happen. Wow.. thats amazing. In Nevada, the utility providers cannot change the utility out of a tenants name into anyone elses without the other party consenting FIRST. You might want to check your state laws on this because if you didnt make your own account with the utility, theres no way they can be billing you. Also check your lease. If it says the tenants must put the utilities in their names and maintain the payments so the utilities stay on, then you can evict them if they fail to do either.
