Can a landlord sue for unpaid utility bills?
If your lease agreement states you're responsible to pay for your utilities and you don't, of course they can sue. Depending upon your location, certain utility bills can run with the land, which means that the property can be liened by the utility company, forcing the landlord to pay for the utilities you've used in order to receive further utility services at that location. Electricity, water, sewer and trash collection services aren't free. Why would you expect another to pay for items you've used?
